The thermal insulation materials for light steel houses

One of the most frequently asked questions is how about the thermal insulation of the light gauge steel house? In fact, there are kinds of thermal insulation materials that are divided into heating preservation cotton and insulating boards, all of which are usually used in the construction of light steel homes, greatly improving the thermal inside the door and making it energy efficient. Now, let’s make a detailed statement of the most used ones.

1. Heating preservation cotton

1.1 Glass wool

Glass wool, which is also referred to as glass fiber insulation or fiberglass segments, is a kind of artificial inorganic fiber that is a branch of glass fibers. These are

melted at very high temperatures and then spun into fibers, by which millions of tiny air pockets are created inside the insulation, it also makes glass wool have excellent insulating properties. And it is a kind of artificial inorganic fiber that belongs to glass. Glass wool boosts good performance including good moldability, low coefficient of thermal conductivity, less volume density, thermal insulation, sound absorption, corrosion resistance, and stable chemical property.

1.2 Rock wool

Rock wool is also known as mineral wool or stone wool, which gets its name from the materials it’s made from, as it’s produced using rocks and stones. It can be a natural byproduct of volcanic activity, or it can also be created by spinning molten rock and minerals with steel slag to create a cotton-candy-like wool product.

Being pressed into rolls and sheets, stone wool boasts effective insulation with sound-absorbing and fire-resistant properties. It must be noticed that the material can be either flexible or rigid, and the way of its installation is like any batt insulation in the wall panels.

This type of insulation has different forms of batt, board, roll, and pipe, it tends to come in one standard color, and sometimes it is available with a foil backing. It’s really a good option for insulating cavity walls.

2. Insulating boards

2.1 XPS (extruded polystyrene) foam board

XPS extruded board is a hard type of extruded thermal insulating product made of polystyrene combined with additives using the extrusion method. The board possesses a continuous and even external layer and a completely closed honeycomb cell structure shaped during the continuous extrusion process. Which gains itself high compression strength, low coefficient of thermal conductivity, low water absorption rate, low vapor permeance, and aging resistance. The long-life span is due to its uniform wall thickness of linked honey-comb structure and without any gap. These characteristics make it an excellent thermal insulating material that is superior to conventional thermal insulating material and suitable for use in new buildings and renovation works.

2.2 EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam board

EPS (Expanded polystyrene), also known as polystyrene foam, are plastic insulation boards that are usually white or in grey. It has a closed-cell structure, which is formed by heating and pre-foaming the expandable polystyrene beads in molds, providing minimal water absorption and low vapor permanence. Besides, it is lightweight, rigid, affordable, 100% recyclable, and insensitive to humidity. So far, it has been used as an insulation material for more than several decades and is one of the most popular materials for the thermal insulation of buildings. What’s more, EPS is available in several compressive strengths to withstand load and back-fill forces.

All in all, choosing which kind of thermal insulation materials depends on the climate of where the building is, and the needs of the clients. We provide customized homes so that special needs can always be met and by doing so our customers can easily get their dream homes. With the advance of modern technology, keeping warm is not a major issue as ever before.
